Background and education
Bert Bekaert obtained his Law Degree in 2003 at the University of Leuven, subsequently got into macro-economics (Université Catholique Louvain-la-Neuve) and completed an internship at United Nations in New York.
He joined the Ghent Bar as a lawyer in 2005 and moved to Burssens & Partners Corporate Lawyers, later on named Everest Attorneys, in 2008.
Bert Bekaert obtained a Masters Degree in Corporate Law at the HUB in 2011 and joined Everest Attorneys as a partner in 2014.
He has been placed on the list of curators of the Commercial Court in Ghent and the Commercial Court in Oudenaarde.
Bert Bekaert and his staff are often consulted by economic professionals, such as accountants, etc.
He is active in the field of corporate structures and partnership agreements. Furthermore, he is consulted in case of corporate disputes and disputes concerning director’s liability. He is also frequently appointed as liquidator of corporations.
Bert Bekaert also has several years of experience in commercial law, insolvency law and bookkeeping law. He successfully advised already many corporations in bankruptcy proceedings and in procedures of judicial reorganization (Wet Continuïteit Ondernemingen or WCO). Moreover, he gives seminars on the application of the WCO and publishes on the WCO as well.
Bert Bekaert has been a lecturer at University College Ghent (department of judicial practice) and currently teaches civil and commercial law at the CVO Vrije Avondschool Zuid-Oost Vlaanderen.
